More Info:

This October Ed Kuepper releases Jean Lee and the Yellow Dog, his first album of all new material since 2001's Smile, Pacific. The album was recorded and produced by KUEPPER at his own Everest Royal Sound Recorders Studio and was inspired by the story of Jean Lee, the last woman hanged in Australia. It features (amongst others) performances by Jeffrey Wegener (Laughing Clowns) Peter Oxley (Sunny boys) Warren Ellis (Dirty Three) and Chris Bailey (The Saints). KUEPPER felt Jean Lee's life and death had already been well documented and essentially passed into Australian folklore, so the intention with this collection of songs was to take a more personal, and at times, reflective look into aspects of the conflicted personalities and their ambivalent relationships, rather than focus solely on a literal, chronological narrative. In addition to the eleven KUEPPER/DRANSFIELD-KUEPPER originals, Jean Lee.. also features a cover of the Grant McLennan track Finding You which in it's original form appears on the final Go-Betweens album Oceans Apart. The inclusion of Chris Bailey's vocal came about due to the pair reconnecting in the build up to the Saints triumphant reunion for Pig City, an initiative of the Queensland Music Festival, held in July of this year.
