NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS: 25th ANNIVERSARY EDITION - DVD - This stop-motion animated fable was a big hit when it was released - not only at the box office, but critically. It was praised for it's stunning originality and for the excellence of it's execution. In addition, it was praised for being a completely absorbing fable that both grownups and children can enjoy, so long as the children are able to it's handle scary bits (beginning perhaps at age seven or eight). In the story, Jack Skellington (voice of Chris Sarandon) is the Pumpkin King of Halloweentown, a realm of reality where the inhabitants make it their life's work to scare humans on Halloween. He's good at his work, and is very popular around town, but it all bores him. In a funk one day, he wanders into a wood where every tree is the doorway to realms serving one or another human holiday, and falls through the doorway into Christmas. There, he sees scenes of such glee and good will that he is overwhelmed. He returns to Halloweentown with the inspiration to persuade his fellow citizens to kidnap Santa and do Christmas in their own Halloweentown way - complete with snakes and shrunken heads. Despite strong arguments against this project by Jack's otherwise loyal girlfriend, Sally (voice of Catherine O'Hara), Santa (voice of Edward Ivory) is duly captured, and the townspeople prepare a very special Christmas for everyone. Jack is excited about the new plan, and at first doesn't notice that Sally isn't around much anymore. Meanwhile, Oogie Boogie (voice of Ken Page), a sinister opponent of Jack's, has re-kidnapped Santa and has captured Sally as well. Since Sally is the true love of Jack's life and (he eventually realizes) the only one who can be relied upon to tell him the truth in every circumstance, a confrontation with Oogie Boogie becomes inevitable. In addition to being a monumental work of animation (it took over 120 animators and many more technicians more than two years to film it), this show features ten very appropriate musical numbers by composer Danny Elfman, who also supplies Jack's singing voice. In October 2006, fans of the innovative animated classic got to experience The Nightmare Before Christmas in a whole new dimension when the film was re-released into theaters in Disney Digital 3-D - a process developed to add remarkable new depth to films that were originally released in standard 2-D.

Lizzie No’s new album, Halfsies, finds No situated among her peers while still searching for freedom — freedom from the constraints of categorization, sure, but more importantly, freedom from the depths of her own personal despair and from an increasingly violent and nightmarish American cultural and political landscape.

On Halfsies, No’s writing is beautifully intricate, the personal and the political folding into each other as naturally as the patchwork of influences that inform the album’s twelve tracks. From the desolation and loneliness of “The Heartbreak Store,” to the roadworn rock of “Annie Oakley,” to the sprawling mid-apocalyptic yearning of “Babylon,” No’s writing throughout the record serves as a living conversation with her influences — not just musical but literary — reflecting her reverence for a host of the great voices who came before her, from Lucinda Williams to Toni Morrison, and her search for a connection between them.

The collection of collaborators on Halfsies gives the album a sense of community; of voices raised together in a call to arms. That synthesis of personal and political courses through Halfsies, No’s identity as a songwriter owing as much to her musical influences as it does to her activism (an outspoken activist and civil rights advocate, No was recently named President of the Abortion Care of Tennessee Board of Directors).

Toni Cade Bambara said, “the role of the artist is to make revolution irresistible,” and with Halfsies, Lizzie No aims to do just that.

Without a doubt, 1989's NO CONTROL is one of Bad Religion's best releases. This was one of the albums that helped bridge the band's more reckless earlier direction with their more focused (but just as pissed-off) '90s-era. If you're just discovering the band, NO CONTROL is a wise first purchase, on the strength of such cuts as 'Big Bang,' 'Automatic Man,' the title track, and 'I Want to Conquer the World.' NO CONTROL is one of punk's greatest all-time albums and a quintessential purchase for fans of the genre.

Bad Religion: Greg Graffin (vocals); Mr. Brett (guitar, background vocals); Greg Hetson (guitar); Jay Bentley (bass, background vocals); Pete Finestone (drums). Recorded at Westbeach Recorders, Hollywood, California in June 1989.

Double vinyl LP pressing in gatefold sleeve. 2006 self-titled debut studio album by superstar Taylor Swift. Swift was 16 years old at the time of the album's release and wrote it's songs during her freshman year of high school. Swift has writing credits on all of the album's songs, including those co-written with Liz Rose. Swift experimented with several producers, ultimately choosing Nathan Chapman, who had produced her demo album. Musically, the album is country music styled, and lyrically it speaks of romantic relationships, a couple of which Swift wrote from observing relationships before being in one.

Ben Webster's final American recording was one of his greatest. At 55, the tenor saxophonist was still very much in his prime but considered out of style in the States. He would soon permanently move to Europe where he was better appreciated. Webster's tone has rarely sounded more beautiful than on "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Our Love Is Here to Stay." Verve Acoustic Sounds Series features transfers from analog tapes and remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.

Over the course of the last two decades, Xiu Xiu's prolific and influential output of acclaimed albums and collaborations has been consistently dazzling. They've released 17 full-length LPs that have been praised in outlets such as The New Yorker, The Wire, Rolling Stone, The Guardian, NME and many others. They have toured the globe relentlessly, performing in places as far off the beaten path as Kazakhstan and Lebanon and places institutionally vital as the Guggenheim and Centre Pompidou. On Xiu Xiu's latest album, 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips, Angela Seo and Jamie Stewart deliver some of the bands most compelling and mesmerizing music to date. Mixed by John Congleton (Chelsea Wolfe, Swans, Lana Del Rey) this album is unlike anything the band has ever recorded previously and was motivated by the destruction of previous aesthetic notions, as well as the band's recent move from Los Angeles to Berlin.

"The BEAST is back, the BEAST IN BLACK!" Haunting words recalling »Berserker«, BEAST IN BLACK's debut album, which was finally released in November 2017. Although it never actually felt as if the BEAST had been away entirely. Right after the departure from his former band BATTLE BEAST, BEAST IN BLACK's founder Anton Kabanen recruited new companions in the way of high-pitched vocalist Yannis Papadopoulos (WARDRUM), bassist Mate Molnar (WISDOM), guitarist Kasperi Heikkinen (U.D.O.) and last but not least drummer Atte Palokangas (THUNDERSTONE), who officially replaced Sami Hänninen in early 2018. Continuing with the same style of songwriting that he started with BATTLE BEAST, Kabanen crafted a new host of addictive songs that excite with their use of relentless energy and power. Especially the album's first single, 'Blind And Frozen', that blew the roof off and set the bar very high by achieving several million YouTube views in just a year. To cut it short: »Berserker« was very well received by both new and old fans of Anton's work, as well as fans of the anime series »Berserk«, which Anton drew inspiration from. A number of well-known musicians have also praised the record such as NIGHTWISH's Tuomas Holopainen (who said that "you have to be mentally insane to not love this album"), HELLOWEEN / GAMMA RAY's Kai Hansen and many more. Additionally, »Berserker« not only allowed BEAST IN BLACK to enter the hearts of many people all around the globe, but also gave them the keys to the gates of the world's stages! The accompanying touring cycle kicked off in October 2017 in the form of a few European shows supporting the legendary W.A.S.P. - one of Kabanen's musical idols next to JUDAS PRIEST, ACCEPT among others - followed by select shows opening for Germany's BEYOND THE BLACK. If you'd have thought, that it's impossible to top such an amazing beginning, you would soon be proved wrong. The BEAST started 2018 with two sold out headlining gigs in Finland, the homecountry of Anton, Kasperi and Atte. But there was no rest for the wicked, as the group joined Italian symphonic metallers RHAPSODY Reunion on their extensive »20th Anniversay Farewell Tour« across Europe, where the band visited a number of countries and cities for the first time ever. The summer saw BEAST IN BLACK playing several festival gigs, many of which were in Finland. To worthily close the »Berserker« live chapter, the band returned to where their live career had begun back in 2015 - supporting Finnish symphonic metal giants NIGHTWISH in front of several thousand fans in November & December 2018. Despite their extensive touring schedule, the BEAST managed to achieve something else in the past few months
