”The Last Will and Testament” is a concept record of sorts. A restless musical journey in a way mirroring my own relationship with music as a consumer of it," narrates band leader Mikael Åkerfeldt. "I pick up something here, dismiss something there. I worship and I hate music at the same time. This ambivalence leads me down some type of creative path of my own and then, all of a sudden, a collection of songs has been written. Best case scenario, these songs are good enough to impress the band. Good enough for the ”powers that be” in terms of the industry. Good enough for ”you”?! I love this record. I have to say it (write it). Maybe I’m proud even? There are some familiar ingredients in there I suppose. Most of our music has sprung from the same source, so I guess it’s not much of a shocker if it’s going to sound like ”us”. I’m a bit in awe of what we did with ”The Last Will and Testament”. It feels like a dream. There is some ”coherence" and ” songwriting skills” I hope, but what do I know? I tend to favour the ”strange” over the ”obvious”, but I feel like I’m in the minority, and that’s fine. So…fair warning! Don’t expect an instant rush (as per usual), but if you do ”get it” (have you got it yet?) right away, that’s ok too!"

Smokey Vinyl. Razorlight were at the forefront of the indie-rock resurgence of the early 2000s, their biggest moments - 'Golden Touch', 'Somewhere Else', 'In The Morning', 'America' and 'Wire To Wire' - driving three Top 5 albums, nine Platinum album certifications, an NME Award, and live highlights including headlining the Reading Festival and performing at Live 8. After reuniting for live shows in 2021, the classic line-up - Johnny Borrell (vocals/guitar), Björn Ågren (guitar), Carl Dalemo (bass) and Andy Burrows (drums) - will release the new album 'Planet Nowhere' on October 25th, their first together since 2008. Razorlight preview the set by sharing it's first single, 'Scared Of Nothing'. Since reuniting, Razorlight have sold-out a headline tour which included a London show at the Eventim Apollo, and played shows as guests to Muse, Kaiser Chiefs and James. But as the ever ambitious Johnny challenged himself, "Who wants to be a greatest hits band?" So he hatched a plan, and late in 2023 booked a five-day session with the legendary producer Youth (The Verve, James) at his Space Mountain studio in Spain. Youth knew what they had to achieve, telling the band, "Razorlight's quite simple isn't it? Just a driving bassline, driving drums and a story." For whatever reason, things weren't that simple. After four days they had a stack of ideas, but nothing really worth pursuing. And then, as Johnny recalls, something remarkable emerged from out of nowhere. "I'd been down in the barranca, and came back up to find the studio empty. So I picked up this weird six-string bass/guitar hybrid I'd never seen before and wrote this thing. On our last night, I started playing it with the guys. The drums came in hard, the bass pounded. It sounded like shit. Absolute shit. But Youth was there, saying 'Can, Velvets, see where it takes you' and 'Why don't you try it like that?' But still, the track just wouldn't budge, locked in it's own inertia. Youth says, 'You're getting there, just one more' and almost instantly the song came out, from nothing to something, like a statue coming up out of marble." That song was 'Scared of Nothing' and listening back to the finished track, it's easy to see why it resparked Razorlight's mojo. Exuding taut, spiky post-punk energy in a way that's instantly infectious - the very traits that attracted highfalutin praise from NME back when they started out ("More tunes than Franz, more spirit than The Strokes, and more balls than nearly every band out there"). And as ever, Johnny demonstrates the swaggering, high-intensity charisma that took him from being a figurehead of the Camden scene to rise to become a Vogue cover star. It was also the track which unlocked Razorlight's creativity, leading the band to return to Spain with Youth for a second session earlier this year, during which they crafted an extensive catalogue of songs for the upcoming album. Other titles vying for inclusion include 'Zombie Love', 'U Can Call Me', 'Dirty Luck' and 'Cool People'. Since returning, Razorlight have also looked back on their initial achievements, first releasing 'Razorwhat? The Best of Razorlight' (complete with the new song 'You Are Entering The Human Heart') and then last month issuing the 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of their breakthrough debut album 'Up All Night'. Never a dull moment. Writing a new ending for themselves, Razorlight are back to cast out the boring in your life.

When a musical family gets together to record, magic can happen and this is what the VAN ZANT’s are here for! Brothers Johnny and Donnie Van Zant (respectively current lead vocalist of Southern Rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd and founding member of .38 Special) were able to find room in their busy schedules for the first time in 1998, recording their collaboration album “Brother to Brother”: a tribute to their late brother and Lynyrd Skynyrd original singer and founding member Ronnie. Such release was highly acclaimed between the press and fans worldwide and brought the duo to record a follow up album, simply entitled “II” in 2001. Their collaboration during the years did not stop as they tapped their feet in a more Country-oriented style with the release of “Get Right With the Man” (certified Gold in the USA in 2005) and later on with “My Kind of Country” in 2007. Now the brothers once again reinvent themselves, offering a Christian-themed album encompassing their Rock and Blues musical roots (and with a touch of Country for good measure). The result “Always Look Up” is made up of songs that will touch the listener’s heart and soul, with an emotional depth that is truly second to none in today’s musical landscape. Experience the soul touching that only the music from the Van Zant family, can provide. You will see why they are icons of the American South, and musical heroes to millions around the globe!

Nobody Loves You More is Kim Deal’s debut album, although it’s technically not her first release under her own name – she self-released a 5-part, 10-song 7” vinyl series in 2013, and beyond that, she’s earned her stripes as early as the late 80s with bands Pixies and The Breeders.

The long-awaited record’s creation began with its oldest songs, 'Are You Mine?' and 'Wish I Was,' which were written and originally recorded in 2011 and included in said vinyl series, shortly after Deal concluded Pixies’ ‘Lost Cities Tour’ and relocated to L.A. In the years since, the record took shape in pieces, coming to light with a variety of collaborators, including Breeders past and present (Mando Lopez, Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, and Britt Walford), as well as new friends like Jack Lawrence (The Greenhorns) and Savages’ Fay Milton and Ayse Hassan. Tracked over the last several years, the record’s last recording was helmed by iconic engineer and Deal’s close friend Steve Albini, tracking “A Good Time Pushed” with Jim and Kelley in November 2022. Sonically versatile and propulsively infectious, the resulting record is a celebration of Deal’s unmatched artistry, nodding not only to her career highlights with celebrated bands across the alternative landscape, but also to her immovable cultural weight.

In a season where we all seek comfort, tradition, and a return to a home of sorts, a trio composed of indie music's foundational members have gifted us A Peace of Us-an album of diverse holiday tunes filtered through their musical imaginations. Dean & Britta, well-known from their work defining a genre with Galaxie 500 and Luna, join Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom, another bastion of indie's collective adolescence, to bring to life a collection that draws from early '60s pop, garage, country, James Bond soundtracks, Christmas carols, and electronica. Dean Wareham recalls a sentiment from his DJ friend Chris: "You can experience all the emotions of Christmas through music: love and hate, joy and heartache, nostalgia, regret, anticipation, and frustration." Their venture into a holiday album was organic, spurred by a few cover tunes over the years, a Christmas special during the pandemic, and finally collaborative sessions between Dean & Britta in L.A. and Sonic Boom in Portugal. The trio all contributed vocals, with guitars by Wareham, bass and keyboards by Phillips, effects, and mixes by Sonic. The result is an album of exploration as well as comfort, "like Bing Crosby... on acid," Britta adds, the tracklist a reminder that the holidays are complex and tragicomic. If collaboration is the fuel, peace and mutual understanding is surely the fire, and A Peace of Us has us gathered around it. "Christmas is mostly for children anyway," says Dean. Sonic adds, "Or the inner child in all of us. Goodwill to all men. Hopes and fears for the year to come. And light in the darkness. Where this festival began."

Big Thief

Masterpiece

Vinyl: $31.14 UNAVAILABLE
Vinyl LP pressing. Big Thief's music, rooted in the songs of Adrianne Lenker, paints in vivid tones "the process of harnessing pain, loss, and love, while simultaneously letting go, looking into your own eyes through someone else's, and being okay with the inevitability of death," says Adrianne. Masterpiece, Big Thief's debut album, is filled with characters and visceral narratives, songs that pivot in the space of a few words. Adrianne's voice and guitar playing speak of rich emotional territory with grace and insight. In her words, the record tracks "the masterpiece of existence, which is always folding into itself, people attempting to connect, to both shake themselves awake and to shake off the numbness of certain points in their life. The interpretations might be impressionistic or surrealistic, but they're grounded in simple things."

Looking back, why did it take ten years to finally lure Waylon Jennings to the Austin City Limits stage for his first performance? Like everything else about the man, he did things his own way - when he was damn good and ready. Maybe it had something to do with that other Texas singer, that Red-Headed Stranger who shook things up in Austin and country music in general. Waylon wasn't sure what the fuss was all about (as he sang, "It don't matter who's in Austin, Bob Wills is STILL the King!") - Terry Lickonia, Austin City Limits

For nearly 70 years, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir-today known as The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square-has provided the soundtrack of Christmas. The 360-person, all-volunteer choir's lush and majestic sound is one of the most distinctive in American popular song, and that's in no small part due to the group's legacy of Christmas albums. That legacy, which is still going strong today, began in 1957 with the Columbia Masterworks release of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Sings Christmas Carols. Though the Choir made it's first recordings in 1910, Christmas Carols was their first seasonal set, and quickly became a beloved perennial in the Columbia catalog. Eight years later, with stereo sound having all but taken over, the album was re-recorded, and the original disappeared... until now! Real Gone Music and Second Disc Records are proud to celebrate the season with the first-ever authorized reissue of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Sings Christmas Carols in all it's gorgeous mono splendor. Christmas music has never sounded so stirring and inspirational as on this set of fifteen classic carols and hymns, backed by the monumental 11,623-pipe organ at the Salt Lake Tabernacle. We've added four rare period bonus tracks (in stereo) to this essential package. It's all been newly remastered from the original tapes by Mike Milchner at SonicVision, and The Second Disc's Joe Marchese has penned new liner notes exploring The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's history of Christmas music. The most wonderful time of the year has just gotten a bit more wonderful with the CD premiere of this lost classic from "America's Choir" that's sure to enliven your Christmas morning!

The new record draws attention to new sites - some are intriguing, vast scars on the natural landscape, others survive only in local memories, historic clips and photographs. 2xLP

Limited green and yellow colored vinyl LP pressing. Includes digital download and sticker. In the Spellbound sonic universe, enchanting hooks about friendship and growing up in New Jersey orbit driving verses that prize brevity, never laboring longer than necessary. On lead single "Rocky Road," Boyscott explore the mental gymnastics required for a career in music, pulling on the threads of fear and excitement they experienced in their early tours. Such reflection is abundant on Spellbound: "Arthur Kill" refers to the peculiar beauty of a boat graveyard in the Arthur Kill tidal strait; where "Lima" interpolates a song that stuck with Hermo since high school. All told, Spellbound continues what Boyscott started with Goose Bumps, honing their pristinely arranged indie pop morsels into a fully realized sound that vindicates the near ten-year wait.

Flat Duo Jets

White Tees [Colored Vinyl]

Vinyl: $29.98 UNAVAILABLE
Flat Duo Jets: White Trees [2024 Remaster] First time on vinyl! Fronted by the late Dex Romweber. The duo's fourth album was the first album of all original material. Produced by Caleb Southern, White Trees is a Jets' masterpiece that proved that Romweber could diversify his band's material without losing his recklessness and urgency. "The fourth album by North Carolina's Jets is a tarnished neo-rockabilly gem. Dexter Romweber's battered honk is the perfect voice to wrap around these twisted tales about Charlie Dick (Patsy Cline's hubby), UFOs, and dining with Van Gogh. It's as if the "Eraserhead" soundtrack were recorded at Sun Studios and sent to Weekly World News for editing."- Entertainment Weekly Arguably the busy Duo's most accomplished set, '93s handily diversified White Trees jumbled stylistically antiquated originals in a cohesively dignified manner. -Beermelodies
