HOT CHIP - Why Make Sense? - Domino
With Why Make Sense?, Hot Chip restate their intentions as a band and redefine the very things that made them relevant in the first place. It shuns modernist dancefloor tropes in order to flick through the dusty corners of the band’s teenage record collections. Alternately jarring and chaotic, pared back, thundering, then pulsating and gloriously mellifluous, the album confidently displays its influences.

Eilen Jewell - Sundown Over Ghost Town

Eilen Jewell - Sundown Over Ghost TownEILEN JEWELL - Sundown Over Ghost Town - Signature Sounds
Honesty, confidence, and respect permeate Eilen Jewell's music, dating back to her self-released Boundary County album in 2006. Since then, the Boise native has recorded five studio albums for Signature Sounds with her road-tested touring band, and two more as a member of the Boston-based gospel-charged Sacred Shakers, which includes that well-oiled band at its core.

As hard as it is to categorize Jewell's music terms like alt-country, roots-rock, country-noir, and Americana get used a lot it's even harder not to become thoroughly enraptured by the singer/songwriter's powerful versatility, musical stories, and images. And that gorgeous voice makes you feel like she's singing just for you, out on the breezy back porch or by a crackling campfire. She does so much, so well.

Sundown Over Ghost Town's twelve original songs reflect on recent changes in Jewell's life including the birth of her first child and returning to her hometown of Boise, Idaho. The music has a western feel evoking wide open spaces with the generous use of pedal steel and organ.

Valkyrie - Shadows Valkyrie - Shadows
New CD: $13.98   $11.99
Propelled by the stunning guitar heroics of brothers Pete and Jake Adams, Virginia’s Valkyrie return after a five year hiatus to deliver ‘Shadows’, one of the year’s best guitar-driven heavy rock records. Jam packed with harmonized leads, rich solos and melodic, blues based riffs, Valkyrie sound like the perfect blend of Thin Lizzy and Saint Vitus. Where Pete Adams’ other band Baroness focuses more on the proggy and poppy side of metal, Valkyrie is all about southern fried and whiskey soaked hard rockin’ guitar jams. Produced by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Leviathan, YOB), ‘Shadows’ is the perfect summer heavy rock record!!

The Helio Sequence - The Helio Sequence The Helio Sequence - The Helio Sequence
New CD: $13.98
The self-titled sixth album by The Helio Sequence began with a friendly competition. Several of the duo’s friends within the Portland, Oregon music scene had been playing “The 20-Song Game.” The rules were simple, playful and ambitious: Songwriters would arrive in their studios at prearranged times and spend all day recording 20 complete songs. When they were finished, they’d have a party, listen to the results and talk about the process of simply making music in the moment.

Recorded concurrently with Steady, again working with producer Craig Welsch (10 Ft. Ganja Plant), BRIGHT DAYS features this unique band further establishing themselves as the only reggae band that can moonlight sounding like American Beauty-era Grateful Dead, The Band, and early Neil Young. The record features a harmonica guest spot from G. Love (a fan of the band) on Humboldt County Gold.

Christian Lopez Band - Onward Christian Lopez Band - Onward
New CD: $12.98
Hailing from rural West Virginia, Christian Lopez is a 19-year-old singer, songwriter and musician, blessed with the soul of an Appalachian mountain bluegrass musician fifty years his senior. On his full-length debut album, Onward, the young artist emulates the sound produced by the region’s resident pickers and strummers, impressively melding his influences into something modern and indefinably his own.
Darrell Scott - Ten Darrell Scott - Ten
New CD: $13.98
In the last 3 months of Ben’s life I started sending iPhone recordings of me singing a song of his – the first iphone recording, “I’ve Gotta Leave You Now,” closes this album – this recording is what Ben heard – he loved it.. (what I wanted was for Ben to hear his songs coming toward him rather than only from him – for a writer, it is an important perspective: to hear songs with 1 degree of separation – like you’re hearing someone else’s songs.)
The Milk Carton Kids - Monterey The Milk Carton Kids - Monterey
New CD: $17.98   $16.98
With their third album Monterey, The Milk Carton Kids have evolved their signature sound into its purest essence. Writing on the road, sitting around after shows in green rooms and hallways, these duo found themselves finishing and editing each other s songs, resulting in a batch of songs where, for the first time in the band s career, friends and family cannot tell who wrote what. And for all the attention the duo received for combining into one voice, on Monterey we finally hear the singers as distinct; the acclaimed harmonies move farther apart so that the quirks and kinks of two individual identities emerge, the harmonies all the while remaining lush and soaring, their beauty all the more apparent for the showing of their scars.
Holly Herndon - Platform Holly Herndon - Platform
New CD: $14.98
Holly Herndon has become a leading light in contemporary alternative and electronic music by fearlessly experimenting within the outer reaches of dance music and pop songwriting structures. A galvanizing statement, Platform cements Herndon’s reputation as a unique musician with a singular voice. Born in Tennessee, but reared on music abroad, Herndon broke out from her formative years in Berlin’s minimal techno scene to repatriate to San Francisco, where she currently lives and studies as a doctoral candidate at Stanford’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). Herndon’s debut album Movement, released in 2012, showcased Herndon’s fascination with trance and the disjunctive sampling techniques pioneered by avant-garde composition. Offering what Herndon describes as “a rupture, a paradisic gesture”, Platform is an optimistic breakthrough for Herndon, an appeal for progress, and a step toward new ways to love.
Kopecky - Drug For The Modern Age Kopecky - Drug For The Modern Age
New CD: $11.98
Kopecky are thrilled to announce their second album, Drug for the Modern Age, set to be released on May 19 via ATO Records. The new record takes the many shake-ups the band s endured over the past few years and turns them into inspiration for groove-driven, melody-heavy alt-pop that s intensely emotional and exhilarating
Weedeater - Goliathan Weedeater - Goliathan
New CD: $13.98
The infamous rock outlaws Weedeater return with ‘Goliathan,’ their long-awaited new album. ‘Goliathan’ is the crossroad where true Southern rock/metal meets raw humor and old religion, and embodies the bands trademark shuffle and swagger rightly. Syrupy slow riffs are buoyed by canyon deep bass and some of the hardest-hitting drumming since Keith Moon. Full-on bruiser “Cain Enabler,” “Claw of the Sloth,” and the aptly-named “Bully” demonstrate that ‘Goliathan’ is vintage Weedeater and the soon-to-be gold standard of Southern sludge metal.
Entrails - Obliteration Entrails - Obliteration
New CD: $13.98
Entrails were officially signed by Metal Blade Records in March of 2012. Entrails played numerous festival shows in the summer (like Party.San and Summer Breeze) and started recording their Metal Blade debut album in September. The recordings were finished by the end of the year and the material got sent to Dan Swano once again for mixing and mastering. “Raging Death” finally got released in May of 2013. After the release Pontus Samuelsson replaced Mathias Nilsson on guitars and the band became more focused than before. Jimmy moved his studio into the woodshed where it all began in the 90s. The new/old surrounding inspired Jimmy to write material like never before, several songs were written during the fall of 2013. One of the new songs ended up on a 7”, “Berzerk”, that was released in January of 2014 via Metal Blade. The B-side featured a cover song of Swedish Heavy Metal legends Heavy Load.
Du Blonde - Welcome Back To Milk Du Blonde - Welcome Back To Milk
New CD: $14.98
Du Blonde is the artistic reincarnation of the artist, Beth Jeans Houghton, and Welcome Back To Milk is the first album to be released as Du Blonde. Whilst her 2012 album Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose was a standalone piece of polymath pop, 25-year-old Houghton, has constantly evolved and reinvented herself – a musical and aesthetic chameleon always playing by her own rules. Much of the forthcoming album, including the first single, "Black Flag" was produced by Bad Seed and Grinderman member Jim Sclavunos, whose previous production credits include The Jim Jones Revue and The Horrors.

Allen Stone - Radius Allen Stone - Radius
New CD: $10.99
On his third full-length album, singer/songwriter Allen Stone proves himself deeply devoted to making uncompromisingly soulful music that transcends all pop convention. Stone s debut for Capitol Records, Radius marks the follow-up to the Chewelah, Washington-bred 28-year-old s self-released and self-titled sophomore effort, a 2011 album that climbed to the top 10 on Billboard s Heatseekers chart and gained acclaim from renowned rock critic Ann Powers (whose NPR review hailed Allen Stone as meant for those of us who like our R&B slightly unkempt and exceedingly feelingful ). Made in collaboration with Swedish soul singer/songwriter/phenom Magnus Tingsek, Stone s latest batch of songs capture the warm energy of that creative connection and transport the listener to a higher and more exalted plane.

Turbowolf - Two Hands Turbowolf - Two Hands
New CD: $13.98
Video
Welcome to 2015: the year of the wolf. Since their formation in 2008, the Bristolian riff-ragers have melted minds with their signature brand of patchouli-drenched punk rock fury. Their live rituals are the stuff of legend: a trapdoor into the cosmic beyond via the uncharted depths of your mind, sound-tracked by the red hot fuzz of crackling speakers and overloaded channels.

Robert Pollard - Faulty Superheroes Robert Pollard - Faulty Superheroes
New CD: $17.98   $16.98
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays Robert Pollard from the swift completion of his latest brilliant record. Faulty Superheroes jets off Pollard s vinyl-grooved runway like the prototype for some new supersonic power pop fighter jet, and at this point in his career is anyone surprised that the twelve tracks on his latest effort are uniformly awesome? The answer is no. Exactly no one is surprised.
Anti-Flag - American Spring Anti-Flag - American Spring

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Multi-Love Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Multi-Love
New CD: $14.98
The threads of our past never unravel, they hover like invisible webs, occasionally glistening due to a sly angle of the sun. On Multi-Love, Unknown Mortal Orchestra frontman and multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson reflects on relationships: airy, humid longing, loss, the geometry of desire that occurs when three people align. Where Nielson addressed the pain of being alone on II, Multi-Love takes on the complications of being together. Multi-Love adds dimensions to the band's already kaleidoscopic approach, with Nielson exploring a newfound appreciation for synthesizers. The new songs channel the spirit of psych innovators without ignoring the last 40 years of music, forming a flowing, cohesive whole that reflects restless creativity.
Buddy Rich - Birdland Buddy Rich - Birdland
New CD: $18.98   $17.98
Rachel Grimes - The Clearing Rachel Grimes - The Clearing
New CD: $14.98
Rachel Grimes is a pianist, composer, and arranger based in Kentucky – most renowned for her work in Rachel's, the groundbreaking chamber-rock ensemble that introduced an entire generation of underground rock fans to the unexpected similarities and appeal of neoclassical music. Grimes has toured the world as a solo pianist, and as a collaborator with chamber ensembles such as Portland Cello Project, astrďd, Cicada, the Amsterdam Sinfonietta trio, and Orchestra Kandinskij. Unhurried, at times fleeting, and stretching into the sky, The Clearing is a winding path of transient moments exploring personal memory, relationships, and mystery from a deeply internal place. The music is a wide spectrum of textures in strings, harp, piano, woodwinds, and percussion. Featuring an ensemble that includes Scott Morgan (LOSCIL), Scott Moore, Kyle Crabtree (Shipping News), Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Jacob Duncan (Liberation Prophecy), and Helen Money, The Clearing reveals a broad new chapter for Rachel Grimes.

Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated At Last Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated At Last
New CD: $15.98
2015 album from the San Francisco-based garage rockers. Here we have nine muscular tunes primed to pummel. Last year's Drop was more schizophrenic, ranging from heavy to whimsical and back; Mutilator Defeated At Last has more in common with the monolithic hugeness of Floating Coffin. With only two brief reprieves from its onslaught, this record is made to be played loudly and demands bodily sacrifice. Despite the plutonium heavy feel, Thee Oh Sees continue to be omnivorous. Synths and acoustic guitars wind throughout the album like veins of gold through granite. Any and all that stands in its way will be devoured and assimilated. This is the sound of a band doing what they do best.
Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize
New CD: $17.98   $16.98
Originally released in 2010 as a DVD/ Blu Ray, Anesthetize captures Porcupine Tree at the peak of their powers at the 013 Tilburg, Holland in October 2008. John Anderson - Goldmine John Anderson - Goldmine
New CD: $13.98
To put it simply, John Anderson is one of the greatest country music singers to ever step up to the microphone, possessing one of the most instantly recognizable vocal instruments in the history of the genre. On Anderson s latest album Goldmine, released on his own Bayou Boys label, Anderson has completed a long overdue record of original songs the award-winning songwriter wrote or co-wrote 12 of the album s 13 tracks that will bring joy to the hearts of some of the most devoted fans in country music. Goldmine is also a record that, given the current state of contemporary country, could, like latter day releases by Cash and Haggard before him, find a home amid lovers of authentic music of any genre. Though he would never compare himself to his heroes, the fact is, John Anderson is now the standard bearer for traditional country music, of the 100 Proof variety.
Snarky Puppy - Sylva [w/DVD] Snarky Puppy - Sylva [w/DVD]
New CD: $19.98   $18.98
When Snarky Puppy won a Grammy in January of 2014, the question I was asked most was, Was this on your bucket list of things to do before you die? And my answer to each of them was, actually, no. I have only one thing on my list. The only thing I want to do before I die is make an album with an orchestra. It had been a topic of discussion for three months at that time. During the October 2013 recording sessions for We Like It Here in Utrecht, our good friend Friederike Darius had invited two of the Metropole Orkest s managers to join us as guests. Within ten minutes of the performance s end, we had already crafted a plan to make a record together. Sometimes life is that easy. Not always, not most of time, but every once in a while, it is.

Vardan - Despicable Broken Hope Vardan - Despicable Broken Hope
New CD: $16.98
VARDAN, the busiest man in black metal, continues his dominance of the underground with 'Despicable Broken Hope'. Chronologically the 20th album in the one-man band's vast discography, VARDAN's latest 'Despicable Broken Hope' sees the selfsame main man take his melancholic black metal art down more melodic roads. Mind you, the 'melody' across 'Despicable Broken Hope' is of a most miserable hue, each wracked note ringing out in the night like the sound of dying soul. Set at a mostly mid-tempo gait, here VARDAN twists out the bittersweet beauty in each paean to pain, with those 'spaces between the notes' haunting the memory long after record's end. Face 'Despicable Broken Hope' and feel alive - and DEAD!

Marc [Bolan] is one of the eternally precocious, fated to live outside the world of adults forever. (Rolling Stone on Electric Warrior, 1972) Children of the Revolution is a celebration of the youthful excess of rock n roll and a tribute to beloved glam icons of the 70s: Marc Bolan and T.Rex. Bringing together 17 up-and-coming indie rock bands from Nashville, Atlanta, and New York -- including Ttotals, Jawws, The Mumzees, Tipper Whore & more -- COTR captures the spirit of Bolan, while creating a sound seemingly unstuck from time somewhere between 1972 and 2015. A portion of the proceeds from each album sold go to benefit YEAH (Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities) supporting music education through programs like the Tennessee Teens Rock Camp and raising up a new generation of Children of the Revolution.
